Company’s philosophy

Our mission

Our mission is to share the heartbeat of Latin America through cumbia by creating a fun, welcoming space where everyone can learn, connect, and dance with confidence. We teach authentic rhythms, real social dance skills, and the tools you need to feel the music, express yourself, and bring your unique sabor (flavor) to the dance floor at any Latin party, anywhere.

Our vision

We envision a community connected by rhythm, culture, and joy. A place where cumbia brings people together across backgrounds, where tradition meets modern flavor, and where every dancer feels seen, supported, and empowered. Through Intro to Kumbia (beginner) and Kumbia Brava (intermediate), we aim to keep Cumbia alive, evolving, and dancing, one song, one step, one party at a time.

About alan

Alan was born and raised in Queens, New York, in the middle of vibrant Caribbean and Latin communities where music was always playing and dancing was simply part of life. Some of his earliest memories are of family members moving to rhythm, sometimes even dancing to the hiss and clang of old steam radiators when there was no music at all. From the start, dance wasn’t something he learned, it was something he lived.

As a first-generation Mexican American, Alan always felt deeply connected to his roots. Growing up in New York sparked a curiosity to discover the parts of his culture that couldn’t always be found there. Every year, he spent months traveling to his mother’s hometown in Mexico, absorbing the music, movement, and traditions that shaped his identity. Those trips planted a lasting love for cumbia and social dance and the feeling of community that comes with them.

Wanting to grow as a dancer, Alan later joined Cali Salsa Pal Mundo, where he began refining his technique and deepening his understanding of partner connection and musicality. Over the years, he has trained with inspiring instructors such as Ana Sauco, Jorge Riasco, Alex & Desire, Briana Rios, and many others. He continues to take classes throughout the city, always learning, always dancing because movement is where he finds joy.

Today, Alan is passionate about sharing cumbia not just as a dance, but as a culture and a feeling. He loves collaborating with event hosts or other communities to create spaces where people can connect, celebrate, and dance together. Stay tuned for upcoming events and workshops because the story is still unfolding, one song at a time.
